FAQ

WHAT ARE YOUR APPOINTMENT HOURS?

Monday through Friday : Noon to 7:00p.m. Saturday : 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Later than 7 p.m:. only if absolutely necessary
Sundays: only if absolutely necessary

WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?

Price for labor is quoted by the job after I have seen the item(s). Changes and requests made to the original work order which require additional labor and materials will increase original quote.

HOW LONG WILL THE SERVICE TAKE?

For simple alterations and mending I try to get it done in a 2-3 week time-frame. Bridal work usually takes longer. I do take last minute projects, if time permits,or if I am forwarned by the customer about pregnancy, weight-loss (gain), delays in garment shipping, or out-of-town wedding attendant.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING FOR A FITTING APPOINTMENT?

The garment(s) that need fitting, shoes that will be worn with the garment, and foundation garments---slips, spanx, bras, long line shapers, etc.

WHAT KIND OF PAYMENT DO YOU TAKE?

Cash or check. NO CREDIT CARDS

DO YOU TAKE OUT-OF-STATE CLIENTS?

Yes. Many times out-of-state clients are college students who come home for visits. I do my best to schedule them in on those weekends.

HOW MANY FITTINGS WILL I NEED?

Minimum is 2 for simple hems, a bust or hip adjustment. If further adjustment is needed ,then a third will be needed.. Major enlargement or decreasing could take as many as 4 or 5, but 3 is usually the norm.

WHAT IS THE COST TO BUSTLE A GOWN?

Cost is determined by the number of pair/points(pr/pt) needed to raise a dress off the floor---it could be as little as one or as many as 20+ depending on the fullness and dress design. The average is usually around 10-12 pr/pts or less.

DO YOU MAKE HEAD PIECES AND VEILS

Yes, but I do not embroider---too much time and cost involved. My professional advice is to buy the embroidered veil you love. However, a simple veil and comb is inexpensive to make. Embellishment with rhinestones, pearls, or sequins can be added.

DO YOU CHARGE A FEE FOR CONSULTATIONS?

NO

WHO PROVIDES FABRICS FOR PROJECTS?

If you want to purchase the fabric, I will determine the yardage needed for you. I prefer to get the pattern---retail sizing and custom sizing are not the same. A retail size 8 could be a size 12/14 in patterns.

Sometimes finding the speciality fabrics for bridal or formal wear involves a trip to Chicago to Vogue or the Fabric Outlet. A customer is welcomed to join me on a day trip to make her selections.
For home decor projects, the customer usually provides the fabric needed.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR YOU TO MAKE MY DESIGN?

A picture, a sketch, a garment to copy, maybe a special detail you desire on your dress, a website. Remember copyright restriction: I can give you a close look-a-like with modifications that will complement your figure type.

DO YOU DO BEADING AND EMBELLISHMENT?

Yes.

For custom wedding gowns or formal occasion wear, the most cost effective way to get embellishment is to buy beaded yardage, or beaded appliques or trims. I also hand bead and can add more glitz to a gown if desired.

I'M NOT SURE IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME.

A free consultation can determine that. You would be surprised what solutions can be suggested to make a truly unique finished product or repair.

HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED FOR A CUSTOM DESIGN WEDDING GOWN OR FORMAL WEAR?

4-6 months minimum; less for very simple designs.

GOT ANY OTHER ADVICE FOR THE BRIDE?

If you have a style in mind, try it on in a retail store to see if you really like it on your body. In fact, try on lots of different styles; you will be surprised to find what you really like. Finally, if the dress you really like is in your price range, buy it.
I will gladly alter it for you. After all, it is all about you!

ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Brides should consider if they will be wearing their bridal shoes all day long, or if they will be changing in to a more comfortable pair. This could affect the bustle and length of your dress. One solution would be to purchase a 2" or more thick wedge flip flop. Also full slips affect the length, so removing a slip after the ceremony for whatever reason will affect length.
